Did you know that Valentine's Day is one of the most wasteful holidays on the calendar?
One would think that roses are the most eco friendly gift on this day but uh oh...store-bought cut flowers have one of the largest carbon footprints of all! In fact 80% of all roses are grown in South America or Africa, flown by high speed jet to one of a few flower auctions around the globe, and then trucked to your local shop. Not to mention the chemicals and pesticides needed to fertilize and protect those beauties. No thanks!

Each Valentine's Day Americans buy 36 million heart-shaped boxes and a whopping 180 million greeting cards. YIKES! That's a lot of paper that's just going to get chucked in March.
